The history of the song Still Loving You by Scorpions

The song "Still Loving You", included in the band's ninth album, became a real hit and evoked powerful emotions among listeners around the world. The composition awakened feelings in people, forcing them to perform romantic actions. Many people are interested in how it happened that at a certain stage the Scorpions group moved away from the heavy sound and began to play ballads. Vocalist Klaus Meine explained:

“It’s quite simple: we just wanted to see more girls at concerts.”

Of course, this is a playful quote, because with such practical motives it is unlikely to write such a moving song as “Still Loving You” became.

A song that, like another ballad, “Wind of Change” defined the perception of the group by the listeners, was composed in 1984 by vocalist Klaus Meine and guitarist Rudolf Schenker. Interestingly, the appearance of this song was a kind of miracle. Almost at the same time, Meine fell ill with a fungus that damaged his vocal cords, the vocalist even thought about leaving the group, deciding that his illness could hinder success. But the members of the group “Scorpions” insisted that the vocalist not rush with decisions and return after treatment with new strength. Perhaps it was at that moment that a rethinking of their work took place.

It sold approximately 1.7 million copies in France. This track is considered one of the band's most successful singles. On the American Billboard Hot 100, the song “Still Loving You” only reached number 64. However, how important is it to be in the hit parade when the melody is loved in almost all countries to this day? It is no coincidence that this composition was reissued many times: for example, the song can be found on a collection of remixes released in 1992.

The group recorded their hit with the Berlin Philharmonic for the album “Moment of Glory”.

The latest version of “Still Loving You” was presented to the public in 2011 on the album “Comeback”.

The meaning of the song Still Loving You - what the Scorpions sing about

“Still Loving You” is a slow rock ballad that gradually builds as more instruments are added. One of the key elements of the song is the drum part performed by non-band member Herman Rarebell.

The meaning of the song “Still Loving You” is simple, it addresses the most eternal theme - love (even though for some it may symbolize the relationship between West and East Germany). In the text, the lyrical hero (Klaus Meine) confesses his love for a woman, but is afraid that their relationship may end. Already at the time of the song, the passion between them had faded, and he seeks to revive it. After the first chorus, the lead singer apologizes to his beloved.

The divine meaning of the song is that God loves all people, even if they make mistakes.

This composition is imbued with feelings of love, pain and the desire for another chance. Rudolf Schenker, guitarist of the Scorpions, commented:

“I came up with the melody of this song. It took me six whole years to somehow fit it into the album. When Matthias Jabs brought the guitar part, I knew this was what we needed. Klaus (Meine) noticed this immediately. He told me how he once walked out onto a snowy field and inspiration came to him. He returned home, words poured out of him and here we are. This is the story of a romance novel where the characters realized that everything may be over, but let's try again. This is an old and always repeating story. We cannot invent anything new. We always repeat what has already been said many times, but each time in our own way.”

Klaus Meine's voice is permeated with the deepest emotions; he sincerely experiences the suffering of his soul and longing for his beloved woman. The title of the song can be misleading, hinting at intimate moments, although in fact it conveys a sadder and more melancholy message than listeners might think.

The mistake of the musicians, who forgot that in the English language feelings are not used in “Continuous,” turned out to be almost prophetic. This track became a hit around the world, but it was especially popular in France, topping the charts. In fact, he was so popular that he may have even increased the country's population. Rudolf Schenker was surprised:

“The love song “Still Loving You” sparked a baby boom in France. But we didn’t think that this was possible, you know? We were on a TV show in France and the host, a very famous guy who interviews us every year, says, “Hey guys, did you know that you were responsible for the baby boom in '85.” We just laughed like crazy! And, yes, this was confirmed by the government. This is incredible.”

The Scorpions guitarist recalls how, after a performance in Paris, a newlywed couple approached him and asked for an autograph. They showed him a photo of their daughter and explained that they named her Sly.
