“In the Dark” is a collaboration between Purple Disco Machine and Sophie and the Giants released in 2022. The song is an energetic and catchy mix of disco and indie pop. Here’s what Purple Disco Machine had to say about the music genre “Disco”:
“The disco genre, which has existed for almost half a century, is firmly rooted in musical culture. Although the public’s musical preferences are constantly evolving, the dance industry regularly revives styles of the past. Now we are witnessing another triumph of disco, and I am proud to be a part of this revival.
I may have even contributed to its modern comeback. Although trends inevitably change, disco, as a classic form of melodic dance music, will always find its niche. Disco's uniqueness lies in its universal positive energy, inspiring character and cheerfulness.
The combination of vocals and rhythmic patterns makes it relatable to every listener. That is why disco fits seamlessly into various aspects of life – from home listening to sports training and entertainment in nightclubs and music festivals. In essence, it is the perfect form of dance music, whose relevance is timeless.”
Purple Disco Machine shared his approach to creating music. When asked what makes his compositions special, he explained:
“I always start with the drums. For me and my tracks, the right rhythm is the most important thing. Then usually comes the bass line. I definitely spend most of my time on the bass line. It’s pretty important to me. Combined with the drums, it’s the perfect way to start a new track.”
Purple Disco Machine talks about what makes his collaborations with Sophie & the Giants special:
“Maybe it’s because we’ve never worked together in the studio? Haha, I’d love to be in the studio with Sophie and the Giants, but the truth is that both of our tracks together were recorded remotely due to the pandemic.
She's a great lyricist and performer, and that certainly helps, but I think we both have an intuitive feel and appreciation for what we're trying to achieve musically. She definitely "gets" what Purple Disco Machine is about and what I was trying to do with my album Exotica."
The track “In the Dark” received positive reviews from music critics and became popular on dance floors and charts around the world. The track reached high positions in the charts of European countries, including Germany, Austria and Belgium.
