History of the creation and meaning of the song By Your Side (In My Mind) by Leony
Leonie Burger, known by her stage name Leony, was born on June 25, 1997 in Germany. She represents a new generation of German pop artists who successfully combine local musical traditions with international trends of electronic dance music. Leony began her musical journey as a teenager, studying vocals and piano, and later began writing her own songs. Her breakthrough in the music industry happened relatively recently, but she quickly established herself as a talented vocalist and songwriter, capable of creating emotional and memorable compositions.
Song "In My Mind” was originally created by German DJ and producer Dynoro in collaboration with Gigi D'Agostino in 2018. The song became a massive hit, racking up billions of streams on streaming platforms and topping the charts in many countries. The track was a modern take on the classic Eurodance sound, featuring a distinctive vocal sample and a hypnotic beat. The success of the original version created the basis for numerous remixes and new interpretations.
In 2022, Leony released her version of the track, “By Your Side (In My Mind),” a collaboration with producers Topic and A7S. This version completely reimagined the original composition, turning the instrumental dance track into a full-fledged vocal song with new lyrics and emotional depth. Leony wrote completely new lyrics that tell a story about support and devotion in a relationship, about the willingness to be there for your loved one despite all the difficulties.
The song's lyrics, co-written by Leony and other writers, focus on the theme of unconditional support and love. The lines “I'll be by your side when you need somebody” and “Through the highs and the lows, I'mma stay by your side” express a promise of loyalty and a willingness to go through any trials together. This universal theme resonates with a wide audience, making the song relevant to romantic relationships as well as friendships and family ties.
The release of “By Your Side (In My Mind)” in early 2022 coincided with the world slowly recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, and the theme of support and togetherness was especially relevant. The song quickly gained popularity on streaming platforms and social media, especially on TikTok, where users created videos using the track to express gratitude to loved ones. This organic virality contributed to the song’s commercial success.
The song's commercial success was impressive, reaching the top charts in many European countries and receiving multiple gold and platinum certifications. In Germany, the song spent several weeks in the top 10, cementing Leony's position as one of the country's leading pop artists. Her international success also opened doors to new markets, including the UK and other English-speaking countries.
The success of “By Your Side (In My Mind)” had a significant impact on Leony’s career, turning her from an up-and-coming German artist into an artist with international recognition. The song opened up opportunities for her to collaborate with other well-known producers and artists, as well as perform at major festivals and venues. It became an example of how modern artists can successfully reinterpret existing hits to create something new and relevant.
For Leony herself, the song became an important artistic statement about the value of human connections and support. In interviews, she said that she wanted to create a song that could become the soundtrack for important moments in people's lives, a reminder that no one is alone.
