Let's talk about the track about the most important feeling in the Universe - the song "Love Hurts" by Incubus

"Love Hurts" is the third single from Incubus' sixth album, Light Grenades, which was their fourth US release. The song received moderate popularity in European countries and was released in the United States a year after the previous single "Oil and Water", and almost two years after the album's release. “Love Hurts” became a surprise success for the band in the United States, topping the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and becoming their fourth song to appear on the list.

The history of the song and the meaning of Love Hurts by Incubus

“Love Hurts” gained popularity two years after the release of the album “Light Grenades”. Interest in the track was sparked by radio station KROQ Los Angeles picking it as a song they thought their listeners would like and giving some support to its promotion.

Soon after, several other contemporary rock stations followed suit, and further action was taken by the record company Incubus. KROQ music director Lisa Worden commented to Billboard:

“We always thought 'Love Hurts' could be a hit, but we had ignored the previous singles and needed a break. A few months ago at one of our regular music gatherings we came back to 'Love Hurts' and it was the best song we had ever heard. We decided: it doesn’t matter to us that it’s not new anymore, we’ll start playing it, and the song immediately caused a positive reaction.”

Incubus vocalist Brandon Boyd shares his thoughts on the creative process:

“When I write songs or paint, I honestly don't always understand what it's about until the work is finished. For example, 'Love Hurts' is the exact opposite of a love song, but at the same time, it remains a love song, since love is one of the main themes in music. For me, this is an endlessly interesting topic because of its endless complexity and at the same time simplicity.”

Brandon Boyd talks about love with understanding:

“I have experienced great grief and the debilitating effects of love. If I allowed this experience to dominate my life, I would not see the meaning of my existence, because love is one of the most important experiences a person can experience. Sometimes love hurts, but sometimes that pain can lead to new discoveries.”

Brandon Boyd shared his thoughts on the song in an interview:

“It's almost like a cliché. It is about the concept of love and the search for it, keeping it pure and untainted by our misconceptions, misconceptions and expectations, and going beyond the more mundane aspects of the love experience.”

The divine meaning of the song is simple. The song “Love Hurts” is about the strongest feeling in the Universe. About love not only earthly, but also about God’s love for people. God sees everything, all the mistakes and sins of humanity. This is why love hurts.
