The song “Join Me in Death” is a single by the Finnish band HIM. The song was originally released under the title “Join Me”, but later, in the American version of the single, the word “Death” was added to the title, as a result of which the track received its final name “Join Me in Death”.
The history of the creation and meaning of the song Join Me by Gregorian
The German band regorian, led by Frank Peterson, is known for its unique interpretations of popular rock and pop songs. A distinctive feature of their work is the use of elements of Gregorian chant.
In their compositions, Gregorian masterfully combine harmonious vocal parts with instrumental accompaniment, creating a unique sound inspired by ancient church chants. The Gregorian group recorded the song “Join Me” for the song HIM. Sarah Brightman was the soloist in the group.
Gregorian was originally conceived as a band with a more pop sound, similar to the Enigma project. However, in 1998, Frank Peterson and his team rethought the concept, directing it towards performing famous hits in the style of Gregorian chants. When choosing songs for adaptation, strict criteria were applied: the song had to be adapted to the seven-step musical scale.
When creating each Gregorian album, great attention was paid to the selection of compositions. In addition to cover versions of famous hits, the track list also included original compositions, the authors of which were Jan-Erik Kors, Amelia Breitman and Karsten Heusmann. To bring the musical ideas to life, twelve vocalists with extensive experience as session performers and choir members were invited.
The divine meaning of the song is that God asks man if he wants to sacrifice himself for the most powerful feeling in the Universe – love.
